ISO issues long awaited auditing standard: ISO 19011:2002
Earlier this month ISO formally issued ISO 19011:2002, a new standard for auditors. This standard combines the auditing guidelines for quality management systems (ISO 10011) and environmental management systems (ISO 14010, 11 & 12) into one document. The standard is intended to act as a guide to all auditors, including those who audit internally within their own organization.
The certification criteria against which IRCA evaluates all auditors are based on these internationally recognized auditing guidelines. ISO 19011 has incorporated some changes (over ISO 10011), which have been incorporated into the IRCA criteria for; QMS 2000, QMS, EMS and OH&S. These criteria have now been issued and all applicants evaluated against the revised criteria.
The article entitled ISO develops unique standard for auditing ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 systems will uncover the development of ISO 19011 by Dick Hortensius, who serves as Secretary of the JWG responsible for the development of the standard.
