The security of global supply chains is constantly under threat from smuggling, piracy, terrorism, and economic uncertainty. ISO/PAS 28000:2005, specification for security management systems to supply chains, outlines the requirements to enable an organization to establish, implement and maintain a security management system for a supply chain.
In this context, supply chain means the overall process of goods being transported from point of origin to final destination, including the movement of goods, shipping data and associated processes. Security, therefore, is a joint responsibility of all the actors in the supply chain and requires their combined effort and cooperation.
The standard covers all aspects including financing, manufacturing, information management, storing and transferring goods, and the final location of goods. It is designed for all ranges of organizations, from small to large, in most industries. It can be implemented on its own or integrated with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
